Courtney Rubin
Courtney is an experienced, award-winning national journalist. A former Senior Writer at Washingtonian Magazine, she is now a contributor to People Magazine. Her work has also appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Playboy, Mademoiselle, Marie Claire, Forbes ASAP, the Miami Herald, the Washington City Paper, the Palm Beach Post, USA Weekend, and Working Mother. A graduate of Cornell University, Courtney was a contributor to "Women Getting Ahead," a story about women's rise to positions of unprecedented power in Washington that was a finalist for a National Magazine Award for Public Service in 1998. She has also won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for her sports, business and essay writing. For two years, Courtney was Shape Magazine's popular "Weight Loss Diary" columnist. Her book about that experience, The Weight Loss Diaries (Contemporary Books/McGraw-Hill), is an unsparing, empowering and inspirational memoir, looking at her daily struggles with weight, the challenges and triumphs of taking up marathon running, and her larger efforts to keep food and weight issues from consuming her life. Newsweek called The Weight Loss Diaries "a captivating new book" and "the ideal beach read," Washingtonian said Courtney "writes bravely and honestly," and the Washington Post featured the book in their online "Lean Plate Club." |
