Craig Conley Photo One-Letter Words Cover Craig Conley

Craig Conley is a teacher and author with a long history of writing for schools and public libraries. His One-Letter Words: a Dictionary (HarperCollins), is a surprising and fascinating compendium of 1,000+ definitions of the 26 letters of the alphabet and an essential desk companion for puzzle lovers, wordsmiths, trivia buffs, know-it-alls, armchair linguists and all kinds of word lovers. Publishers Weekly says "anyone fascinated by language (and especially fans of word games like Scrabble) will be thrilled with this unique resource" and it has been featured on NPR's "All Things Considered," and in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Detroit Free Press, Raleigh News & Observer and many other publications. The book was named one of the outstanding book cover designs of the year by the prestigious AIGA professional design association and will become part of the permanent collection at the AIGA Design Archives at the Denver Art Museum.

Craig is a consulting editor for McGraw-Hill and Globe-Fearon publishers. For nine years he was an instructor of composition, literature, and study skills at universities and community colleges in Tennessee, Virginia, and Florida. At the University of Florida he wrote and edited curriculum materials for use by teachers across the state in middle and high school settings. He is co-author of two widely used McGraw-Hill textbooks: Human Diversity: A Guide for Understanding, now in its fourth edition, and Diverse Learners in the Classroom, now in its second edition. He has published dozens of articles in such magazines as Mothering, Mnemosyne Journal, American Cage-Bird, and Home Education Magazine, on topics ranging from alternative schooling to Shakespeare plays to why parrots are associated with pirates.
